God is Zealous



 

God has zeal for us 

We keep on going farther and farther from God, but God has the zeal to find us again.

God has zeal against wickedness

Now a Moabite king did not like the Israelites crossing through his land, so he asked a sorcerer Balaam to curse the Israelites. God made sure Balaam did not curse the Israelites, even sending an angel! so all Balaam could say was blessings for the Israelites! and even prophesied about Jesus!

But then Balaam told the king how to overcome the Israelites! they should make the woman of their country intermarry with the Israelites and then their God [the one true God] would forsake them.

 The King followed this advice and so, God made a plague come to the Israelites that killed lots of people.

 Just then, while everyone was weeping in penitence at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, an Israelite man, flaunting his behavior in front of Moses and the whole assembly, paraded a Midianite woman into his family tent. Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw what he was doing, grabbed his spear, and followed them into the tent. With one thrust he drove the spear through the two of them and killed them both with one hit!

And God told Moses he forgave the Israelites because of Phinehas. Like Phinehas God has zeal against sin, and we need to have that same zeal against sin.


Numbers 25:10-13 (MSG)

God spoke to Moses: "Phinehas son of Eleazer, son of Aaron the priest, has stopped my anger against the people of Israel. Because he was as zealous for my honor as I am, I didn't kill all the people of Israel in my zeal. So, tell him that I am making a Covenant-of-Peace with him. He and his descendants are joined in a covenant of eternal priesthood because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel."


Have God’s kind of zeal

Phinehas had God’s kind of zeal likewise, we should have God’s zeal too. Also, we should have a zeal to spread the good news of God.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.


God has the zeal to spread the good news 

God wants the good news to come to all the earth.

Matthew 24:14 The Passion Translation (TPT)

” Yet through it all, the good news of heaven’s kingdom will be proclaimed all over the world, providing every nation with a demonstration of the reality of God. And after that, the end of this age will arrive.”


We should have zeal for God 

And we should have zeal for God as well, and we should be ready to die for God if we must! because then we will be with God in heaven.

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, and serve the Lord.


Summary time

God has zeal against sin and we should have that same zeal against sin, and we should have zeal for God’s word, like God has zeal to spread the good news. and we should have zeal for God, even if we must die! Because then we will be with God.
