Taste & See
Taste & See
When you taste something it's like a piece of gum, you keep it in your mouth, chew it, but then spit it out when it becomes stale. But eat God’s word! Don’t just taste it like gum. Don’t just take a bite and spit it out! Eat it!
Now I'm not telling you to eat your Bible literally, but metaphorically. Your spirit needs food, not only your body. and that food is God’s word.
Now you might ask “Then why does Psalm 34:8 say, O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in him?” without tasting God you can’t see that God is good. So, the psalmist is not saying don’t eat God’s word! he is saying taste and then see that the Lord is good.
Don’t see then taste, but taste then see!
Most of us see something and then say “It’s not tasty” or “it’s tasty,” but the psalmist says, taste, and then see. Don’t Just see God and say, not tasty. Taste and then see.
Psalm 119:103
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
The prophet Ezekiel said “and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.” And King David said it was sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Ezekiel tasted GOD and he exclaimed that he was as tasty as honey, David also added that God was sweeter; when you taste something sweet, you sit down to eat and complete the plate fully. Likewise, it’s not enough to just taste His goodness but we have to eat it to the full to experience it.
We need to eat God’s word
At the last supper, Jesus gave his disciples a taste of him so that they would have a lot of power to go on. like when Queen Jezebel wanted to kill Elijah, he ran away, and said “I’m done” God gave him a taste of some fig cake, and he could go without food for forty days! And John took the memory of the Last Supper and wrote it in the Bible.
John 6:53-56 KJV
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Eat Jesus!
We need to eat and drink God to have life in us, and to rise on the last day. But you might think “Do we need to eat God?” Yes, Jesus told his disciples after blessing and breaking the bread, Jesus gave it to his disciples saying “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for the many for the forgiveness of sins…”
John 6:51 ERV
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my body. I will give my body so that the people in the world can have life.
so, eat God’s word, and eat Jesus.
The more we eat God the more we can do his work for us
Don’t just taste God, eat God!
The bitter scroll
Ezekiel 2:9-10
Then I looked, and I saw a hand stretched out to me. In it was a scroll, which he unrolled before me. On both sides of it were written words of lament and mourning and woe.
Ezekiel 3:1-3
And he said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the people of Israel.” So, I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. Then he said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So, I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth.
Why would you eat sadness and say “It was sweet in my mouth?” well, sadness is coming to Israel, so God is telling Ezekiel to eat the words he needs to tell the people. So, the more we eat God the more we will do what God wants us to do.
God’s word should be our joy and our heart’s delight
Jeremiah 15:16
When your words came, I ate them;
they were my joy and my heart’s delight,
for I bear your name,
Lord God Almighty.
Jeremiah ate God’s word, so we should eat God’s word, and
God’s word should be our joy and our heart’s delight.
We need God’s word
Deuteronomy 8:3 Esv
And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
We live on the words that come from God’s mouth. the bible! now, the bible is not telling us not to eat food! But you don’t only need bread you need God’s word. And Jesus quoted this. So, we need to eat God’s word to live.
Psalm 63:5
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
When you eat God’s word it’s your Joy, and then You will want to spread God’s word like Jeremiah.
So, in conclusion, we learned how to eat God and not just to take a taste like gum. We also found out that the more we eat God’s word the more we can do the work God gave us, and that we need God’s word to live. And we learned that when we eat God’s word, we will want to tell others about the good news. And we discovered that God’s word will and should be our joy and our heart's delight. And we should not only eat God’s word but we should eat God too so that we can be raised on that last day. And God’s word is and is even sweeter than honey.
Bye, see you soon THE END.
